ActingUSA- Acting and Modeling Guide

Modeling Business

ModelingThe Modeling world is a rough business. You can be doing a modeling show one day, and nothing the next, just like acting.

The difference between the two is that for modeling the business is all about the "LOOK." Basically you have to look good all the time, meaning that working out and eating healthy should definitely be an everyday thing for models.

Unless of course you fall into "that" category of the lucky few who don't have to do jack and still have a 6 pack.

Just like any other job in show business you need to either work hard to make your way up the ladder, or know somebody in the business that can hook you up. If you don't have a connection, put together a portfolio, and find an agent to represent you. Don't get in with a dead beat agent that's going to scam you for your money. A legit agent shouldn't charge you to sign with them, will help you find work, and recommend classes to take.

Here's a couple modeling agencies that you might want to check out.

Types of Modeling

Fashion Print Modeling- Modeling for print is the kind of modeling you see in magazines. For example, name brand clothing companies that have those ads where a guy and a girl are standing in a weird position to model some jeans they are wearing. This type of modeling is good for people who don't meet the height requirements for fashion/runway modeling. Also, it is the most demanding type of modeling as well as best paying.

Body Part Modeling- This is when someone is modeling a specific part of their body. Just think about jewelry commercials that you've seen in the past. They usually show a nice looking hand with a FAT diamond on it right? Well, believe it or not, they actually hire these "models" just because they have nice looking hands, feet, etc. Not a bad gig, you don't really do anything but let them take pictures of that body part and get paid a couple hundred bucks or more.

Glamour Modeling- This type of modeling is targeted towards more bikini, lingerie, stuff like that. If you have the body to do this type of modeling, it can pay you very well. Top glamour models are making over 175 thousand a year doing this type of work. So, if you are into modeling for calendars, posters, mens magazines, car magazines, then this is all you!

Modeling Scams

Here's a few good tips to remember to spot a scam.

 - Radio advertisement about a Model Search or Convention.

 - Newspaper Classified ads for looking for models.

 - They ask for an up-front fee. Scam for sure!

 - They ask you to do a test shoot, and you have to pay.

 - They GUARANTEE work. No Agency can guarantee work.

 - They tell you that you MUST take "their" classes.
